Report 8/2/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Jan 08, 2015 11:04 am

Beaches

The sand is starting to fire with the temps rising coming into summer anything can turn up from fast running pelagic's to the humble bread and butter and this time of year always gets me excited. Reports of at the moment plenty of Whiting getting about, focus on fresh baits on the rising tide sharp hooks and light sinkers play key in getting some fillets over the summer period. Also with the Whiting are some great Bream, Jewfish, Dart and the odd Tailor still about.

Rivers

Rivers have just had a nice flush of fresh water and has been firing well with great captures of Flathead and Whiting. The Jewfish have been in full swing chasing bait following the flush of fresh. Plastics and live bait have been working well with some great by catches of trevs, flathead, cod and even the odd Jack around. Surface fishing has been great, Whiting and bream have been chasing small prawns and baitfish and not scared about taking offerings from the surface as the water temps slowly heat up.

Outside

Been some great warm water out there at the moment topping 23.5 in 60 feet of water yesterday. Following these warm currents are Marlin, Dolphinfish, Wahoo, Tuna, Mackerel and many baitfish as the make there migration down south. We have had the odd Mackerel about, no big schools yet just the odd one floating around but the marlin have been better then average for this time of year with some great reports coming from the Tweed area, so we should have a nice run this year. Still the odd Snapper about, following them are the kings. Some great reports in 50m of water with fish over a metre been caught in the last few weeks. Jewfish will be out in force after the big flush of fresh and they should be chasing the baitfish that are on the move. FAD has great reports of Dolphinfish and kingfish, small slugs and plastics have been working well.

Till next time, tight lines.
