Report 21/8/15

The snapper have come on pretty thick over the last couple of weeks. In the mix we’ve been seeing the odd kingfish starting to show up, and pearl perch are also starting to get mixed up in the bunch.

Out wide at the moment is pretty hit and miss. August is a rough time of year to be out there. However, as the water temps start to rise we should see the pelagics start to fire up.

In the rivers there are jewfish here and there but they’re very patchy. Flathead are starting to be caught more often, with anglers chasing them on the shallow flats where the lizards like to sunbake.

The headlands are really quiet at the moment, with only the odd tailor showing up. Once again there was no salmon run, most likely due to the netters down at the south coast.

Blackfish have been plentiful over the last few weeks, with lots of guys getting cabbage and catching a few.

Whiting are slowly starting to come on, and as spring kicks in they’ll be everywhere.
