Offshore the waters have been really clear so the better fishing is out in the deeper water or around the washes where there’s some protection. There have been lots of rat kings around but on some of the deeper reefs there have been some bigger samsons and amberjack.

Around the headlands and breakwalls there are plenty of mulloway taking big paddle tail soft plastics such as Berkley Ripple Shads.

In the estuaries there have been heaps of flathead but you have to hunt around a bit for them. However, when you find a patch you find heaps.

In the rivers, most of the bass are still down in the brackish water waiting for rain. They’ve been fishing well at night on surface lures, such as Tiemco Soft Shell Cicadas.

There are some trout around and obviously it’s best to get in now before it gets too hot. There are definitely good fish to be had for those who move away from the well trodden path.
