Report 17/3/16

In the estuaries the bream and whiting fishing is still going well, with the warm weather keeping them going. A few guys here are getting some quite sizable whiting on Sugapens and other poppers.

Further up there are still plenty of jacks on the bite, and further up again the bass are still biting well. This will continue until the end of the season.

On the beaches a few whiting are getting around but there’s not too much on the bream front. You do get the odd school jew thrown in, and there are a few school jew around the rocks as well.

It’s time for the LBG anglers to get the gear out, as there are longtails poking around the rocks, and some sizeable mackerel as well.

For the boaters there are plenty of mackerel to be caught providing you can get livebait. It’s been a bit hard to get livies north of Coffs but around the Coffs area it’s been a bit easier. If you get the bait you’ll get the fish. As a backup, dead gar and dead bonito have been catching their share of Spaniards and spotties.

There are still a few black marlin poking around in close, although not as many as before. We’re getting reports of good blues out wide, as well as a few wahoo and big dollies.
