Report 19/8/16

Outside: great results in the snapper comp -- good weather and record numbers of fish caught. As well as enjoying good snapper fishing, anglers are getting into some good kings as well. Specimens up to 16kg have been caught up at the lighthouse.

Beach, rock, estuary: we're seeing a really good bream run and lots of tailor as well. Also, a fair few jew are being caught off the beaches and headlands. Some nice jew were spun up around the river mouths after all the rain. The favourite lures after flooding rains are bigger hardbodies like Croakers and Killalure Jewie 150s. There haven't been heaps of jew caught on lures but we're seeing a few really good specimens from Nambucca and Urunga.

The estuaries are just starting to come good. We've been getting good reports of flathead and whiting in the last couple of weeks. There are plenty of blackfish also, and lots of bream in the first few kilometres as well. It's one of those years when the bream and butter species have really kicked into gear.

Not much to report on the gamefishing front, apart from the odd yellowfin, but this will change in the coming months.
