Report 4/11/16

The action has been patchy as we transition between seasons. Offshore there hasn't been a lot; a couple of stripes and a few dollies around the FAD, but not much else. The boys fishing the reefs have been getting a few jewfish on a couple of the deeper reefs, and have still been getting some snapper in close. There are a few kingfish out at the light but they've been hot and cold.

Overall, catches have also been patchy off the rocks. The bream are consistent, and there have been a few good jew around, but as far as tailor etc goes it's been very sparse. It's a similar story off the beaches. There are a few whiting bream and jewies about – find a good hole and they're in there – but it's a bit patchy still.

Up the rivers, the flatties have been biting well and the jacks have started, keeping the boys entertained when the wind blows up.

Bass fishing has been pretty good no matter where you go. Most are being caught on diving lures and spinnerbaits, as it's a bit too early for surface lures during the day. At night you can try Jiggerbugs; they've been delivering plenty of bass of late.

Up the range, trout have been very good -- just be sure to seek permission before going onto private property. The bug hatch has started so lots of fish are being caught on flies, but plenty of others have been caught on spinners like Celtas, and also Sebile Spin Shads.

It's a bit early for crabs; a couple of blokes have caught some but they're tight-lipped. The muddies will start to fire over the next couple of weeks.
