Report 18/11/16

Offshore has been pretty patchy with the way the weather has been. The boat ramp is closed this weekend because of the World Rally Championships so it's not a great time to plan a trip. The good news is that there were a couple of marlin raised 2 days ago, which were the first in a while. The water is currently 25 degrees out on the shelf so it's certainly on the improve. There are also pearl perch and trag coming from the 80-100m line.

On the beaches there are some pretty good school jew around at the moment. Beach worms and squid are the pick of the baits. There are also some pretty good whiting being caught at low tide.

Around the headlands there are a few tailor and some pretty good jew getting caught on soft plastics. The most popular by far are 7" Gulp Jerkshads, with white and pink shine being the 2 better colours.

In the estuaries there were pretty good whiting taken on poppers in the last week. It's really kicked into gear, with good numbers of fish. I also saw a 94cm flathead caught on a popper meant for a whiting.

In the upper reaches some pretty good trevally and jacks are around as well. The bigger Sugapens have been working well right on dark. Saruna shallow running minnows in gold are also taking their share.

For those wanting to try kayaking or canoeing, some pretty good bass are around the upper reaches. The cicadas are active so we can expect a good surface bite this weekend.

For those anglers wanting something different, I recommend heading up around Ebor and Dorrigo. There's good water and good hatches in the trout streams at the moment. Another benefit of heading west this weekend is that it will get you away from the crowds!
