Report 31/3/17

Before the rain, the fishing was good. Plenty of mackerel were getting caught, along with the odd wahoo. A few longtail tuna have been caught offshore, but most longtail catches have come from the land-based guys.

Estuary-wise, the fresh washed a fair few bream down the bottom ends, and quiet a few flathead have been getting caught there too. There have been whiting on the beaches, and a few nice mulloway have been caught around the headlands and mouths of the estuaries from all the fresh pushing out.

There are still quite a lot of tailor getting around off the beaches and the headlands.

Due to the weather, it's hard to predict what will happen next. Hopefully the macks will still be here. After the last wet we had a week and a half ago, they hung around, and when the water cleaned up a lot were caught. There's still plenty of warm water so they should hang around for the next couple of months, along with the tuna.

In the estuaries, the fish and mud crabs will be pushed down to the front ends.
