After a couple of days of light southerlies, the bluewater has come in a lot closer. There's nice, clear blue water over the shelf, and guys heading out to there this weekend have a reasonable chance of marlin, along with tuna, wahoo and so on.

For the guys who like to go out chasing mackerel, this weekend is looking the best we've had for a month. A high barometer, low swell, low wind and improved water quality inshore are all combining to create ideal conditions.

When it comes to reef fishing, we've had a few reports of snapper. The blue water hasn't pushed them out too deep; they're being caught around the 35-40m mark. Catches are a bit sporadic, but the fish are definitely still there. There are a few longtails and mac tuna coming over the reef bommies, so it can be worthwhile floating a bait out the back while snapper fishing.

Off the rocks, little has changed. There are a few tailor and things kicking about, and mackerel and tuna if you can find a nice pocket of blue water. There are some pretty good bream to be had, and a few blackfish too.

When it comes to the beaches, I recommend focusing on smaller fare like tailor, bream and whiting. That lack of swell will make jew tricky. Sure, there would be a couple about in the deeper gutters, lately they've been hard to find.

Up the rivers, the water is cleaning up so you have a few more options than before. There are still a few jacks being caught, especially towards the mouth. Bream and flatties have been OK, with all the usual hardbodies and plastics taking their share. It's worth taking a few surface lures for the whiting too. Now that the dirty water has subsided, casting clear stickbaits for whiting and trevally around the river mouth will be a fair bit of fun.

Further up in the fresh, that influx of freshwater has stirred up the bass, and they're fishing really well. All your normal surface lures etc. will do really well.
