The fishing is starting to heat back up again. Now that the river systems have had a bit of rain, things have really improved.

The Urunga Flathead Tournament is this weekend, and this fun, family-oriented event should attract around 250-300 anglers. The briefing kicks off at 7pm tonight, and there's more info at

There are a lot of bream, flathead and trevally in the rivers at the moment. Up in the fresh things have really started to get moving with that fair bit of rain we've had, so there are heaps of bass up around there up to 50cm.

The headlands and beaches are seeing a lot of jew and tailor caught, and I've heard of a few salmon as well recently.

Offshore a lot of kingies are getting aroudn the lighthouse and washes. There are also dollies out towards the fish traps, FADs and wave recorders.

In the shallow reefs there are pearlies, trag, snapper and tuskies.
