Report 15/12/17

Offshore there are some really good numbers of big kings being caught. A few of the guys have been getting some good specimens to 25kg on surface stickbaits lately. There are lots of little rats among them, but there are enough big fish in the mix to make it worthwhile.

Anglers are getting some nice snapper in both shallow and deep water. The average size is down a bit but there are plenty of them. There's also the usual sprinkling of pearl perch and trag being caught.

We've had a couple of early reports of mackerel here and there, but not many. Gamefish-wise there's the odd marlin but, like the mackerel, not a lot of people are chasing them yet.

Some nice bream, flathead and a lot of whiting are coming off the beaches. A few tailor are in the washes around the headlands too.

A lot of jew are being caught around the headlands and river mouths. Some nice jewies are being caught a few kays up the rivers as well.

Estuary-wise, a fair few jacks and trevally are featuring in catches. Lots of anglers are targeting bream on topwater lures, and have been cleaning up. Some nice whiting are being caught on topwater as well. There are also a few flatties around, although there aren't reports of those big specimens that were coming in a month ago.

In the freshwater, there are lots of bass in upper reaches, and nice trout up at Ebor.
