Report 11/1/18

Boaties were able to get out mid-week after the crappy conditions last week. Spotted Mackerel were off Grassy but were very skittish because of the amount of Sharks about. Live bait is still hard to find out of the normal locations but hopefully that will improve as the week progresses. A couple of small Blacks were caught just in front of the Bar on skirts while there were a few off the Jail around the 50 kilo mark. Some nice Dollies have been around the FAD through the week while the odd Snapper is coming in off the bottom. Cobia are about down towards Black Rock where there has been some live bait just off the rock. Early in the week one crew went to Black Rock got some Slimies and headed to Grassy middle grounds for some nice Mackerel up to 6 kilo.

Cobia have been along the Walls in the river with 2 guys from Sydney landing two around 6 kilo on Herring. Moses Perch or Fingermark are in the river at the moment, not only are they good fighters they are great eating as well. Good numbers of Whiting and Flathead are coming in around Clybucca to Fisherman’s Reach while Jerseyville, past he Bridge has been productive. GT’s are in the same area, which are great fun on light gear. One or two Jewfish were caught along the Break Wall on that run out tide. Smithtown have had some cracker whiting caught on the high tide.

Rock Hoppers are a secretive bunch but the whispers are Cobia down to Hat Head with the odd Mackerel. On the Beaches Smoky is fishing well for Whiting and Bream, Gap Beach has some big Dart with Whiting while Back Beach can produce some good Flathead.

Don’t forget the Seabreeze Hotel Huge Fishing Comp next weekend the 20th and 22nd Jan with over $2000 worth of prizes.

Take care on the Bars
