Report 8/2/18

Good weather conditions through the week brought the fisho’s out in droves to wet a line. Good things again for the blue water guys with plenty of Marlin in close to get a work out on. Cobia are in fair numbers from Grassy down to Hat Head with the odd Wahoo as well. There were a few Spotted Mackerel off the middle grounds off Grassy but unfortunately not in any numbers. Water conditions are spot on with nice warm currents and blue water so it should only be a matter of time before they are biting their heads off. It was Tough pickings on the bottom this week with only a few Snapper and Trag coming in. Dolphin Fish were all over the FAD this week with some nice fish amongst them. There were a few Kings around Fish Rock and Green Island with a heap of Mac Tuna.

If you’re lucky enough to have a boat, put a diving lure and troll or cast a 4” plastic in the shallows over drop offs you will get a Flathead in the river at the moment. Good lizards were being caught through the week in many locations. Better numbers of Bream were caught haunting the river Walls and Oyster racks. Smithtown and Kinchella are still producing solid Whiting on Worm or Nippers.

Smoky Beach has lost some of its gutters with the big seas we have had but there are still nice Whiting to be caught along with Dart and Bream. Back Beach has a few Flathead and Whiting coming in while fishing main Beach around the Boulders should get you a Bream or two.

Take care on the Bars
