Report 21/3/18

If only we could get Slimies off the bait grounds we could fill the boat with quality Spanish and Spotted Mackerel because if you got the bait you got the fish. Grassy produced a few Mackerel through the week while fisho’s had more success on the afternoon run for Spanish out in front of the Jail. Wahoo were reported through the week from Grassy down to Fish Rock. It has been quite on the bottom with the odd Snapper coming in with some small Perch. The local Charter boats have been picking up Dolphin Fish out wider, Jewfish and an assortment of Reef feeders. Fish Rock has had some Kings around it with the odd unstoppable unit reported. Let’s hope the weather settles down to somewhat stable because there will be more Mackerel to be caught.

The river is full of Tailor at the moment up to about a kilo, fun to catch on light gear, not fun when they bust your Herring jigs. We have had a little rain and with any luck that will put some color in to the river. Flathead are still the mainstay species but there has been some quality Whiting in the mix. Schoolies have been around the Jerseyville Bridge in good numbers taking bait and lures. Kings came into the river with the high tide but I have not had any reports of capture. There are Bream along the walls but up river has been more productive fishing again this week.

We are still getting a good run of Tailor along on Smoky and Gap Beach with Whiting and Dart in the mix as well. Main Beach has had some nice Whiting near the boulders with the odd Tailor and Bream through the week.

Take care on the Bars
