Report 9/3/18

Outside fishos can’t get a break with the weather patterns at the moment. Up off Grassy its fishing well in fairly rough conditions for Spotties and Spanish with a few boats bagging out at the end of the week. It is still tough to get any numbers of Slimies off the bait grounds but Pilchards are working if you don’t have live bait.

On the bottom there are a few Snapper and Pearlies with not much size about them. Sharks are in the mix again but we should be used to that by now. Off the Jail there has been a mixed bag coming in with Spanish, cobia a few Wahoo and fair numbers of Marlin. We are having a run of Long Tail Tuna along the coast with the Rock Hoppers getting amongst them. There were as few Kings about off Fish Rock but no world beaters reported. No reports from the FAD so were not sure of the current or the Dolphin Fish situation.

Our river is like an aquarium at the moment which is good news if you want to look at it, not so good if you want to pull a fish out. It might be more productive to fish the run out when there is a bit of color in it. Small Bream are about in their thousands with the odd keeper coming in. There are still good numbers of Flathead being caught but just look for some dirtier water. There are plenty of Herring around the ramps and jetties for that big Lizard you are hunting or throwing the bigger plastics will work as well.

On the beaches Whiting are still in numbers with Smoky and Gap Beach fishing well. Back Beach has Whiting and the odd Flathead at the creek mouth and up towards the Break Wall.
