18/8/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 18, 2006 3:13 pm

After a week of good conditions fishos have been out there in force and coming in with some nice fish.
Bream are firing up at the moment with the breakwall the hot spot, but you need to fish as the sun is coming up if you want better results. Pilchards, chicken gut, mullet and worms will do the job. Blackfish are still on the bite, with quality fish among them, from the coal wharf down to Jew Bite. Flathead are about in good numbers with Belmore the hot spot. Forget the bait and try a plastic, they are working extremely well.
Off the rocks last week there were plenty off nice bream caught along with a few good drummer like Bob Nip’s 2.120kg thumper. There is still the odd tailor and salmon around as well.
The beaches have been quiet with the odd bream, dart, tailor and salmon.
There were some very small striped marlin caught out wide last week which might be a good sign for the season ahead. Leatherjackets are still out there in huge numbers. Small kingfish have been around Fish Rock along with one or two snapper. There were reports of pearl perch and snapper in a strong current off Scotts Head.
