Report 14/12/18

More north Easters over the weekend certainly dampened the enthusiasm of our blue water fishers but we should be used to them, we have had them here for months. Early last week Dolphin Fish were in good numbers out at the FAD but really not much else to report on out on the wide grounds. Grassy had a few Snapper coming in but they were hard to find while one or two Spotted Mackerel were brought home. King Fish have been the main stay around Fish Rock, lots of Rats but some nice fish amongst them. Fish of the week, a monster Mangrove Jack caught around the Rock, we are not real clear on the weight but it was a fish of a life time.

The river is tough at the moment especially for the land based fisho’s with just a sprinkling of Whiting coming in and the odd Flathead with some Bream at night along the Break wall. Boaties are faring better with some nice Flathead coming in out of the creek entrances around Clybucca. There were a few Whiting off the Island up from Jerseyville on the rising tide. There is rain coming, hopefully not too much but that will help.

Off the beaches Smoky has been a hit or miss thing with a few Whiting, Bream and Dart about. Main Beach has Whiting around the wreck but a heap of smaller ones in the mix. Bigger seas have kept the rock hoppers at bay but I did get a report of a Jew or two between the Jail and the Light house in the dark hours.
