Report 25/1/19

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 25, 2019 10:11 am

As we head to the end of the holiday period we have had a calming of the horrid weather and sea conditions we have experienced over the last 6 weeks or so. With the water cooling last week the Mackerel have been slow with just a few coming in. On the bottom things are different with good numbers of Snapper, Trag and Pearl Perch coming in. The fisher of the week was Dean Stiller from Dondingalong with his 27. 4 kilo Jewfish caught on the bottom off Grassy. There has been a few Marlin spotted out of this location as well. In front of the Jail one or two Cobia have started to show up. There not big but still good eating. The conditions have not been favorable out at the FAD but those who have gone have got Dolphin Fish. Fish Rock is giving up some fair Kings using knife jigs. Once again live bait are hard to find.

In the river the boaties are have had a ball with the Flathead through the week with some great fish caught and released. Whiting are in numbers up river and really haven’t made their journey out to beaches yet. Small Jewfish are around Jerseyville with some cracker GTs test your gear out. Land based fisho’s are getting Flathead and quality Bream in front of the Tavern and along the Break Wall towards the mouth.

On the beaches with the cooler water some nice Bream are on Smoky with a few Whiting and the odd small Tailor. Gap beach also has the odd Whiting in the wash.

Congratulations to the Seabreeze Hotel Fishing Club’s Huge Fishing Comp, another successful year with a Snapper over 6 kilo and a Bream well over the kilo mark taking the honours.
