1/9/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 01, 2006 12:16 pm

The week started very slowly with conditions bleak at best and most fishos were land-based or just giving it a big miss.
Unfortunately reports are few and far between but the few that braved the beaches were rewarded with some good bream off Little Bay, whiting off Trial Bay and bream, dart and whiting off Smoky Beach.
The rocks have been ordinary with a fair sea coming in but Brian Sutherland picked up a good 4.6 kg groper and there have been some cracker drummer about.
In the river, the breakwall has been producing some thumper bream and the odd tailor at the end of the wall. Further up river from the Jew Bite to the Coal Wharf, blackfish are still about but not in good numbers. Once again big flathead have been on the bite but mainly up river from Jerseyville to Kinchela. No reports of jew this week but this could improve with the fresh from the rain.
Outside, most reports have come in from the charter boats heading up towards Grassy head, where they have come away with snapper and pearlies along with some flathead off the gravel. A few of the local boys went down to Fish Rock and caught snapper, drummer and groper. The kingfish action slowed down last week with only a few rats coming in.
