8/9/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 08, 2006 4:03 pm

A lot of last week was blown out with south-westers so fishing outside was restricted. There are always the diehards that come back with reports.
We have had reports of good trag coming in off Grassy Head earlier in the week with fair snapper up to a few kilos. Mahi mahi were caught off the FAD in good numbers before the bad weather. Leatherjackets are still on the bite but nowhere near the numbers that plagued us weeks ago. Spanner crabs are coming in out in front of Little Bay while out a wider there are flathead on the sand. No reports from Fish Rock last week.
The river is still producing good blackfish being caught on green weed and cabbage; most of the luderick anglers say they should be around til the end of the month. Good bream are around the Boat Shed late afternoon and into the night. There are plenty of flathead out of most areas of the river. I fished Spencers Creek out of my kayak this week for nine flatties in two sessions but paddling a long way home against the tide is not good.
The beaches are producing some whiting and bream, mainly on worms while the rocks still have the odd tailor.
