Finally a break in the weather, with sea conditions almost perfect while a little colour in the river has excited the jewfish.
Fishos who are putting in the hours in the river are getting rewarded with some nice jewfish. The best I heard was around 15kg but the average is around 5kg or 6kg. These fish are biting on live bait or while the water is dirty, hard lures and soft plastics are working well. Blackfish are still on the bite along the wall, as are the bream like Col Bradbrook’s 1.2kg (cleaned) beauty. Good flathead were reported to be biting well, taking just about anything that moves.
Blue-water fishers found it slow up North around Grassy and Scotts last week with just the odd snapper. Most of the action has been around the FAD with good mahi mahi very active while small kings are around the same location. Spanner crabs are about now so drop your net and drift around the sand for flathead between lifts. No reports from Fish Rock or out wider to Rocks In Line.
Smoky Beach has bream, salmon and whiting if you can get past the red weed that’s there at the moment.
