24/9/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Sun Sep 24, 2006 12:57 pm

The river is fishing well for bream, flathead and a few whiting. Blackfish are still available off the breakwall with some up to a kilo.
Last week the beaches were full of red weed and bluebottles, which is not ideal. Off the rocks big tailor and salmon are about taking lures or pilchards.
Outside there have been reports off snapper north and south, plenty of mahi mahi out wide and fair kings and snapper around Fish Rock.
Marine Park issues have raised their ugly heads again after meetings held at Nambucca and Kempsey. There are more than one million recreational fishers in NSW and 99% of these people do the right thing with bag and size limits but this is taking you and your family’s right to wet a line away from you. Taree to Nambucca (the Manning Bio-region report) has been earmarked as the next lock-out area. Unfortunately after sitting in on this meeting the issue has become political with the National Party’s Andrew Stoner, who was in attendance, categorically stating if there is a change of government at the next State election the marine park progression will stop. We joined Ecofishers – have a look at their website ecofishers.com.
