06/10/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Mon Oct 16, 2006 3:05 pm

There have been plenty of fish around as we come into the second week of holidays.
Fishing the river has been good with some big flathead lurking in the sand flats. These fish take just about any bait but are suckers for plastic lures. “Fearless Fred Fraser” from Wingham landed a monster 9kg plus flathead on a dark colour Squidgie, took a photo and released the big breeder back to the water. There are plenty of small bream around with the odd whiting while blackfish are on their way out at the end of the Breakwall.
Beach and rock fishing is slowing getting better with catches of bream and whiting on the beaches while there have been a few drummer, bream and salmon off the rocks.
Outside has been tough again with the water in close a little cold, dirty and a cornflake weed through it. Out wider there is a good current going and warmer water about. At the FAD dolphinfish have returned around the 5-7kg mark along with a heap of small kingfish. Andrew Thompson hooked a good yellowfin weighing in at 30kg wide off the Fish Rock. Only small snapper reported off Grassy out of ordinary conditions.
Check your safety gear and take care on the bars. Until next week, wishin’ you good fishin’.
