Weekly Report 27/10/06

It’s been hard to put a couple of good days together without the wind blowing its guts out and making it tough out there.
Good mahi mahi are out on the FAD with some 10kg-plus fish preferring live bait over pilchards. Bigger kingfish are around Fish Rock at the moment amongst the rats. Off Grassy Head there have been snapper along with good pearl perch out a little wider. A few of our local fellows hooked snapper to 4kg on plastics out of the same location. Yellowfin have made a return wider off Fish Rock, like last year falling victim to bibless lures.
In the river, jew are still being caught by drifting the North Wall with live pike or mullet. 5” or 6” plastics are also having some success. Flathead are on the bite, eating just about anything that moves. Bream are a little more finicky but fishing around the boatshed and cleaning tables should get you a nice bream. Whiting have been about towards Stuarts Point and Jerseyville and as far up as Kinchela and Smithtown.
The beaches have not been spectacular with the odd bream, dart and whiting coming out of the surf. Smoky is still your best bet on live worms.
