Weekly Report 3/11/06

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 03, 2006 2:42 pm

The weather once again has been fairly ordinary with strong winds and a spot or two of rain, although the rain is good thing when it happens at night.
The river has been the place to fish with some nice mixed bags. Whiting in front of the Tavern on live worms and the odd flattie thrown in. Ray Thompson got a 4.2kg flathead one on a live herring. Bream around the racks and walls but remember to fish light for the bigger fish; you'll lose a few but at least you had a chance. There have also been a couple of jew lurking in the usual spots. Most fish are around 6kg to 10kg and taking live baits or the bigger soft plastics.
Beaches are a little better this week, with a feed of whiting and bream coming in on Smoky. The rocks are fishing OK but the seas and wind are making it a little harder to fish.
The outside scene is starting to pick up with mahi mahi around the FAD. Live bait seems to get the bigger fish at the moment. Reports of some nice snapper, tuskies and pearlies coming in with Scotts Head the pick. Dennis Morton weighed in a nice pearl perch at 2.8kg. There are still kingfish around Fish Rock but you have to get the bait down deeper, otherwise the rats move in.
Don't forget to check your safety gear and fishing licence as Christmas is just around the corner and inspections will become more regular.
