Weekly Report 17/11/06

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 17, 2006 1:55 pm

It was back to winter last week and fishos looked for shelter from the elements.
Once again the Jewfish have been on in the river. Locals Andrew and Wayne hooked three jewfish in one session drifting the wall with the best going 30kg. This was followed by reports all week of good jewfish on plastics and live bait. Flathead are about in good numbers taking live herring and poddy mullet and a large selection of plastics. Whiting are on the bite around Jerseyville and further up river on live worms and nippers.
That mongrel red weed has reappeared on the beaches, some being worse than others. There are still some whiting and bream between the weed. There has been the odd good fish coming in off the rocks with small jew off the Lighthouse and on the point of Hat Head.
Fishing outside has slowed down a little with some fair kingfish around Fish Rock but plenty of undersize fish among them. It’s difficult to get out wide due to the conditions but prior to the blow mahi mahi were on the FAD and the odd snapper and pearlie off Grassy. Late last week the Bay was full of baitfish, hopefully a sign of improvement.
