Weekly Report 1/12/06

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 01, 2006 4:05 pm

We have had some positive signs of improvement for the summer season this week with good catches inside and out.
The river is full of small whiting and bream, all you need to do is find the bigger ones. Again the spot for the shore-based fishos has been between the coal wharf and the boatshed. Live worms work well or for the plastic fanatics the Berkley Gulp Sandworm range are excellent. Flathead are around the entrance to Spencers Creek and on the flats towards Stuarts Point. Small cobia are being caught off the breakwall early in the morning.
The beaches again were slow and windswept last week with reports of a small numbers of whiting, dart and bream. Weed in the water has been a pain, more so on the Hat Head end of Smoky Beach.
The current has been racing outside, making it difficult to fish. Big mahi mahi are around the FAD which is need of maintenance, the extra weight and the current is pulling it under. You must get your bait past the small kings at the FAD. Wahoo have appeared but they’re only around 6kg, along with some yellowfin. Snapper have been slow with a fair bit of snot weed up north.
