Weekly Report 21/12/06

Merry Christmas and welcome to all our holidaymakers.
Exciting times are ahead for the blue water anglers with the arrival of marlin right on time. This week there were a dozen hook-ups in close with small blacks and a few striped marlin up to about 40 kilos. A local crew who are a little secretive about their location bagged an 18 kilo mahi mahi and a brute of a Snapper of 9.5 kilo cleaned. Kingfish are around the Fish Rock, some of 10kg-plus. There has been a beautiful blue current coming down with stacks of bait everywhere.
Whiting are on the beaches but not in big numbers. Fishing a rising tide is your best bet to pick these up, along with the odd bream and dart. Big tides are due just before Christmas day.
The river also has been fishing well for whiting. Small bream are in big numbers; pick your tides with a bit of movement and fish the dark hours. A few nice jew have been caught at night on live bait. This is the time of the year flathead are about but only smaller ones have been reported.
Our population does swell this time of the year so we need to have a little patience around the boat ramps
