Local fishos are champing at the bit to get outside. Last week southerly winds have created havoc with the ocean conditions. A few of the charter boats and a couple of diehard fishermen ventured outside last week for only a few snapper and flathead fishing north, while the odd kingfish was caught around Fish Rock. Most guys have been fishing in close for a little protection from the wind. Next week looks more promising with a change in wind direction.
The river has been fairly slow with a return of the small bream picking your bait away. Now is a good time to have a go and experiment using plastic baits. There have been some monster flathead hammering the Squidgies, Ausspin and Berkley plastics. Lance Laws and his mate nabbed a 5.4kg flathead around Clybucca and a 6kg jew off the breakwall. Good bream are tougher to get with the odd one coming in.
Salmon are still getting caught off Back Beach on pilchards and mullet strips. Smoky Beach has been hard to fish due to the wind but a few bream, whiting and salmon have been caught.
No reports from the rockhoppers this week.
We still have a few GME Marine radios left in stock at only $150, that’s about $50 off normal retail.
Watch the bars and check your safety gear.
