Whiting have finally come on the beaches with Smoky Beach, on a rising tide the most productive. Bream and dart are also on Smoky and Gap Beach. Smaller whiting are on Front and Back Beach. Rockhoppers are doing it tough with a few bream, tailor and small kings being caught. Hat Head ledges are fishing better.
The river is fishing well for flathead and bream drifting the breakwall using pillies, mullet or prawns. Good bream are around the oyster racks at Clybucca early morning. Between the tavern and the boatshed has been the best location for whiting.
Spotted mackerel have started to appear off Grassy. They’re not there every day, though. Black marlin are in front of the Jail, not yet in big numbers but the fishos are getting regular hook-ups. Late last week yellowfin up to 40kg were out wide along with bigger marlin. Bottom bouncers have had trouble with the mixed current conditions and changing water temperatures but still managing a few snapper, jewfish and pearl perch.
Don’t forget the huge Seabreeze Hotel’s fishing comp this weekend, $500 for the biggest bream and $500 for the biggest snapper plus heaps of other great prizes.
