Apart from a couple of bad days on the bar the conditions have been perfect. Consistent water temperatures have put the fish back on the bite. There are plenty of yellowfin about coming in from Black Rock to Scotts Head. Black marlin between the 35kg to 60kg has been more common over the last week. Wahoo are out there in fair numbers as well as reasonable kings around Fish Rock. A few snapper are coming in, the best this week almost 8kg. Spotted mackerel are off Grassy Head while the Spanish mackerel numbers are improving. No trouble getting the slimies this week.
Whiting are on the beaches taking live worms and pipis. Smoky and Gap Beach are the best pick. Surprisingly there are a few tailor off the rocks and the odd bonito or mackerel.
Whiting are in the river in good numbers as well as bream biting on nippers and live worms. A few jewfish have come out of the river this week. A little bit of dirty water should get the flathead more active and is the ideal time to try some plastic baits out. We have a great range of Gulp plastics in store now, these are deadly on the lizards.
Check your safety gear and take care on the bars.
