28/10/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 28, 2005 8:34 am

The sun is out and it’s steaming hot but the wind is still blowing, making the outside conditions fairly bumpy.
If you are going to fish the river this week make sure you use a bait that a flathead is going to be attracted to because there are plenty around at the moment. Hot spots are in front of the tavern, Clybucca and the flats around Jerseyville. There has been the odd bream about with reports that they are on the bite way up river around Kinchela and Smithtown. Whiting are here already but not in big numbers yet.
Rockhoppers are having some success with tailor making a return off the rocks with monster greenbacks reported off the ledges at Hat Head. There are plenty of salmon about in front of the Jail and off the end of the river breakwall. If you are chasing the elusive jew, try the grounds under the Lighthouse.
The beaches around town are fairly slow with Smoky Beach the pick with some bream and whiting coming out.
Fishing outside at the moment has been ordinary. The snapper are not on the bite but some good reports have come in from the charters that mahi mahi, some over 10kg, are around the FAD but not in good numbers yet. Hopefully the sea will steady down and we will get some calm conditions for the Seabreeze Hotel fishing comp on the first weekend in November. $2 for adults and 50c for kids, it’s a fun weekend. Entry forms available from the shop and the hotel.
