Cobia up to 25kg were on the bite last week from Black Rock, out wider and back to the Jail Peak. There is live bait out there in good numbers over a large area. Black marlin are around showing interest in the baits but not aggressively. Yellowfin are still around in good numbers while kingfish are taking baits off Fish Rock. Spotted mackerel are finicky off Grassy, there are a few coming in but there is a lot of water between them. Fishing the bottom off Grassy and Scotts should get you some snapper.
River fisho’s couldn’t believe their luck when heaps of small cobia moved in along the end of breakwall. The bigger cobia were taking live pike but the smaller ones were biting on just about any bait. Shovelnose sharks are spooling anglers in the same locations. Flathead are in good numbers, taking a wide range of plastic baits in the coloured water. Bream and whiting are biting well on nippers and live worms.
Beach fishing has been tough with the bigger seas over the last week. Tailor are on the bite late afternoon on Smoky Beach with pilchards and garfish the pick of baits. Amongst the dart there have been some whiting.
This week’s special: Shimano TLD 20/Taipan extreme 15-24kg roller tip rod $279.
