Weekly Report 16/03/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Mar 16, 2007 12:05 pm

A much better week had by all with black marlin finally on the bite again with good numbers caught and released. Yellowfin are about, most around 5kg to 6kg but some are around 15kg. Wahoo have been hooked with one visitor having a double hook-up trolling in front of Gap Beach in 17m. Spotties were in better numbers with a couple of fishos bagging out. Also an odd Spanish mackerel boated off Grassy Head. Bottom fishing has been tough again this week with the odd snapper and morwong. There are still some cobia being caught, from Grassy to well south of Black Rock. If you are chasing kingfish, Fish Rock has a few. Live bait was readily available again this week.
Whiting and bream are on Smoky Beach with tailor biting first and last light. Little Bay is producing whiting while Back and Main beaches have whiting as well. Guys fishing off the rocks are still doing it tough with just a few tailor reported.
Long toms have invaded the river – great fun to catch but that’s about it. The breakwall action has slowed down with no reports of jew or cobia this week, only the odd shark.
The river should start to clear with some bigger tides due this week. Up river it’s very dirty so it has been quiet but there have been some bream and flathead around the Cut Through and close to the opening.
This month’s special combo: Shimano TLD 20/ Taipan Extreme 15-24kg roller tip: $279.00
