Weekly Report 22/03/07

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:37 am

I think the big guy has flicked that switch off again with a week when fish were hard to entice. There were a couple of days last week where spotties were on the bite, taking slimies and pillies with a few guys getting their limit. There were reports of a few Spanish coming in as well with some snapper on the bottom. Action in front of the Jail shut down last week apart from some cobia and the odd marlin. Fish Rock fished well for kingfish with a few bust-offs on some bruisers. Yellowfin are still about but the numbers are down a little. Black Rock has produced a few cobia.
Tailor are on the bite off the rocks, taking garfish, pilchards and strip baits. Mika Saunders weighed in 2kg and 3kg tailor last weekend. We had reports of a few yellowfin off the lighthouse ledges. The beaches were slow again this week with a few whiting, dart and bream coming in while tailor are on Smoky Beach.
The river is still dirty but if you are chasing whiting, Smithtown and Kinchela are producing some good fish. Flathead are about in fair numbers with the bigger ones taking live herring and small mullet. There are plenty of bream along the rock walls taking worms, mullet strips and plastics. Jewfish have been hard to find, hopefully the full moon will improve the catches.
Catch of the week comes from a visitor, a 3kg spotted mackerel off the breakwall.
This month’s special combo: Shimano TLD 20/Taipan Extreme 15-24kg roller tip rod – $279.00
