Weekly Report 30/03/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Mar 30, 2007 5:13 pm

It’s been a real mixed bag this week. Cobia are still on the bite with some 20kg-plus fish coming in from the Jail Grounds. Yellowfin are also chasing lures and fair snapper and the odd jewfish coming out of the same location. Spotted mackerel were really on the bite a week ago but now you are battling to hook up. One charter boat ventured out wide and were rewarded with a heap of big pearl perch. It’s still worth dragging skirts or live baits for marlin with a few caught last week. Slimies have been a little hard to get in numbers,
Flathead are on the bite in the river with some good catches coming out of Spencers Creek and on the flats around Rainbow Reach. If you can get live herring you will increase your chances on the lizards. Good bream are about along the breakwalls taking mullet strips, live worms or tuna baits. Still no reports of jew in the river but they should improve on the moon. Bream are in big numbers around the boatshed with night the most productive.
Unfortunately the beaches are not really firing with the tailor inconsistent but there has been a trickle of whiting and bream off most beaches. If you are driving on Smoky Beach it may pay you to head towards the Hat Head end.
This month’s special combo is a Shimano TLD 20/Taipan Extreme 15-24kg roller tip – $279.
