Weekly Report 13/04/07

The fishing this week outside was in shut-down mode. Spotted mackerel were tough to hook off Grassy. There were some whispers of Spanish mackerel but most fishos were rigged for spotties and got busted off. The conditions were poor over the end of last week so fishing out wide was a non-event. Fish Rock has been fishing well for kingfish with some fish around 8kg. Yellowfin numbers have increased with most of these being caught off the Jail down to Fish Rock. Live bait is a real issue this week with that mongrel longliner boat coming in close to the Boulders and just taking every rare slimy that’s there is.
If the current conditions are keeping you in the river, all is not lost, good flathead are about. The Cut Through has been producing some good lizards on the flats towards Stuarts Point. Drifting the breakwalls has been producing good bream, taking plastics, herring and pilchards. The boatshed is the spot if you are land based for good bream at night. Whiting are also on the bite using live worms but watch your size limits. If you can find some green weed there are a few blackfish off the breakwalls that might be eager to take bait.
Smoky Beach has a heap of dart biting at the moment along with some whiting and bream taking live worms. Tailor are taking pilchards and garfish early morning and late afternoon. Gap Beach is fishing well for tailor and bream. Front Beach and Back Beach have bream and the odd whiting coming in.
This month’s special combo: Shimano TLD 20/Taipan Extreme 15-24kg roller tip $279.
