Weekly Report 27/04/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 27, 2007 3:29 pm

It’s been a tough week for the river anglers. Legal bream have been scarce while the flathead are around but not in good numbers. Reports of good whiting up around Stuarts Point with the odd pounder amongst them. There are some blackfish coming in the river but they’re not biting at this early stage. Still a heap of long tom and chopper tailor.
Fishing the rocks this week has been fair with some big tailor coming in along with bream and tarwhine. We have had reports from Hat Head of good longtails off the rocks.
Fishing the beaches has been very quiet. Smoky and Gap beaches have a few tailor and bream coming in while Main and Back beaches have whiting and bream.
Last week was a mixed bag outside with some fishos getting good catches and others not turning a reel. Wide off Grassy is producing big pearl perch and reasonable snapper in about 60m. A few spotties are still around in close and good reports of live bait in the same area late last week. There were a number of nice cobia caught off the Jail last week with John Downy’s 26.5kilo beast the fish of the week. Splashdown hooked a marlin in close so they’re still there. Down south at Fish Rock kingfish are taking baits along with some big mac tuna. There have been some small mahi mahi coming in as well. If you can get out wide, try for some bar cod in about 100m.
