Weekly Report 4/05/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 04, 2007 12:01 pm

Conditions this week have been fantastic, perfect days and flat oceans. Spotties off Grassy have made a return, albeit in small numbers. Out at 60m snapper and pearl perch have been on the bite as far up as Nambucca. Cobia are off Grassy as well as in front of the Jail. Andrew Madden caught a 29kg cobia while Geoff Gardiner caught two crackers off the Jail in dead flat conditions. Fish Rock had some kingfish early in the week but from all reports it has slowed down. There is still the odd wahoo around off the Jail Grounds.
Beach fishing has been slow with the odd tailor coming in with whiting and bream. Unfortunately this is the time of the year when the Queensland mullet fishermen come and do their thing on our beaches so it will be tough for the recreational fishos to get a feed.
Off the rocks there have been a few bream and black fish coming in with the odd tailor. Reports of huge bream down at Crescent Head, hopefully on their way up.
At the moment the river is crystal clear so the bream are very skittish and with the full moon last week the night fishos were only hooking up eels and long toms and no bream. The reports were a little better the further you went up the river. It has been quiet on the breakwall apart from a few small bream and flathead, we would suggest fishing the run-out tide to get the dirty water.
