Weekly Report 11/05/07

What a week! The blue-water fishing here has been brilliant. Wahoo are coming out in good numbers, yellowfin are making another run with some in close up to 15kg. Cobia have been really on the bite. Andrew Soames in his 8ft inflatable hooked a 16kg unit 200m off the Jail. Ken Lyons, Matt Turner and Craig Cohen all got 32kg fish while Graeme Beech and Scott Ward landed a 38kg beast. Pearl Perch are around the 60m reefs along with some nice snapper and there’s still the odd spotted mackerel off Grassy. From all reports Fish Rock has slowed down with not much current at the moment. Live bait is tough to get with the longliner sitting on the Bait Ground.
Reasonable bream have come into the river with your best bet to fish along the breakwalls as light as the tide lets you. There’s plenty of long tom around to have a bit of fun with. Flathead are on the flats in good numbers taking just about any bait you want to throw at them or they are suckers for plastic baits and lures.
The beaches have been slow last week possibly due to the calm conditions. Smoky has been fair with bream and dart coming in but the Tailor have been inconsistent. Back Beach has the odd Whiting but try up towards the river mouth for better results.
We are now stocking the Jarvis Walker Water Snake electric motors. These have a proven reliability and are at a very reasonable price.
