4/11/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 04, 2005 8:02 am

If fishing outside is your thing, you are going to do it tough until the warm water coming down gets here. NE winds early in the week have made it difficult to get outside but prior to this mahi mahi have started to turn up with some crackers among them. Matt was out past the FAD and hooked one topping 17kg. No report of any striped marlin this week but it’s only a matter of time. Small kings are around Fish Rock while there are some flathead off the grounds in front of the lighthouse. There were some reports of snapper if you were fishing north, but they are few and far between.
Jewfish are on the bite along the breakwalls from the Jew Bite down towards the opening. I have hade reports of spear fishermen hunting these fish along the wall. Don’t think twice dob them in to Fisheries, it is illegal. There have been great flathead again this week coming out of the river on pilchards, live poddy mullet and mullet strips. Try soft plastics up to100mm. If you haven’t used plastics before you will be surprised, they really work well on this species. Whiting are biting on nippers and live worms while good bream have been hard to find.
Beaches around town have been slow again this week with a few whiting and the odd salmon coming in.
If you are having trouble with your marine radio out there, come in and have a look at our GME radios, at only $150 for a short time.
Watch the Bars and check your safety gear.
