9/11/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Wed Nov 09, 2005 4:38 pm

Better conditions last week got the fishos out and about with catches that were a little more promising than previous weeks.
Flathead are on the bite again with pilchards, mullet or even better, live herring or mullet. A few jewfish have come in but with a run of dirty water coming out of the river, these fish should be on the chew. Whiting are being caught up river and Kinchela has been a hot spot. There have been a few bream around but mainly throwbacks.
Beach fishing has improved with good whiting on Back Beach with the odd flathead. Smoky Beach is fishing well for whiting, dart and the odd bream. Little Bay has a few whiting.
The rockhoppers are doing it tough with salmon, bream and the odd tailor coming off the ledges.
Fishing outside has brightened up a little with small snapper off Grassy and Scotts. Bar cod have been caught out wide on the bottom while there have been some great mahi mahi on the surface. Last week saw sea temps between 23° and 24° so it’s only a matter of time before it gets real exciting here again.
The November Seabreeze Hotel fishing comp had some good results this month with nice pearl perch, venus tuskfish and snapper weighed in. The senior inside angler of the month was Brian Sutherland with 6 species while Dalton Smith took out the juniors. The angler of the month outside was Col Rowsell with 5 species. Watch the Bars and check your safety gear.
