Weekly Report 10/8/07

With the conditions almost perfect, fishos have headed out very wide to get the yellowfin that have been reportedly out there but no reports at this stage. There are loads of leatherjackets out in those grounds but you do not need to go out that far to be hassled by these toothy critters. Fish Rock is fishing well at the moment with some quality snapper and the odd big pearl perch reported by one crew. Rocks in Line is full of jackets while the reefs off Grassy and Scotts are producing some snapper, trag and pearl perch.
It has been worth the effort if you have been fishing the rock ledges over the last week. Good numbers of drummer have been caught along with some cracker blackfish taking cabbage. Tailor are still there in numbers as well as fair bream out of the white water.
Gap Beach last week was full of dart biting on just about any bait. Good tailor off the north end of the beach and the odd whiting on live worms. Smoky Beach has been a little slow apart from a few salmon, tailor, bream and whiting. Front Beach has a few bream around the boulders.
The river is crystal clear which is making it difficult catching bream without light leaders or fluorocarbon. Blackfish are still on the bite off the wall around to the wire fence, more productive on the run-out tide. There were a couple of monster 25kg-plus jewfish caught last week in the river on the night tides on live baits. There are a few flathead around on the flats up river in the dirtier water.
