Weekly Report 17/08/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 17, 2007 10:46 am

The action has slowed down a little over the last week with the fish going shy.
There were good reports of snapper and pearl perch further north towards Nambucca but on the reefs around Grassy and Scotts, fishos have battled. Leatherjackets are still about in big numbers in the deeper water. The good news has been the return of good kingfish around Fish Rock and Green Island. There are still plenty of tailor for the guys dragging lures in front of the jail down to Green Island.
It’s a hit and miss thing with the blackfish at the moment. There are heaps around but they are slow on the bite. Bream are about along the walls but the big ones are few and far between. There have been a few tailor on the end of the breakwall with the odd trevally while the jewfish guys have had some success out of the river. Flathead have made a return with some nice fish caught over the last week. Brad Dowd was fishing Spencer Creek bridge and hooked a nice 1.275 kg flathead on a bloodworm Squidgy Wriggler.
If you are looking for light gear sport fishing, head out to Smoky Beach, throw out a pilchard and hang on for 3 to 6 kilo salmon and there’s lots of them. Tailor have slowed down a little off the beaches but you should get some bream and the odd whiting out of the surf.
Rock hoppers are getting tailor in the white water off the rocks, smaller bream are about with the drummer fishermen doing OK.
Thanks to Shane, Phil and Ian for looking after things while we were away seeing what’s new in the tackle industry at the tackle trade show.
