The river is full of small bream at the moment with a lot of water between the big ones. Flathead are the fish to target now with good catches of pan-size lizards. Local fisho Bob landed a monster flathead around 6kg off the breakwall. There are still some blackfish to be caught while a number of jewfish have come in off the North Wall.
Gap Beach is fishing well for smaller bream and good dart on the north end of the beach. Smoky has whiting, bream and dart with a few big salmon. Rockhoppers have been doing it tough in the calm seas apart from a few bream and the odd tuna.
Good offshore conditions early last week saw fishos headed out in droves. Grassy has snapper, pearlies and venus tusk fish in around 30m. Fish Rock has had kingfish, reddies and small tuna, while Black Rock has had the odd snapper. The currents are a little erratic at the moment while the water temp has been around 20°. I’m still trying to get an answer from Fisheries as to when the FAD will be replaced, stay tuned. Take the time to look at the whales on their way through.
