Weekly Report 9/11/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 09, 2007 11:27 am

Like everybody, I’m over the horrible weather. The only good thing is it might put the fish in the river on the bite because the diehard fishos have struggled to get a feed over the last week. Graeme Fletcher, Steve Grove and Roger Coombs are on their annual pilgrimage to South West Rocks. They battled the elements and cleaned up on flathead including one cracker off the breakwall. Most of their fish were caught on soft plastics. Small bream are everywhere but it’s tough to find a keeper. Whiting have been further up river towards Smithtown.
There were mixed results on the beaches last week with the north end of Smoky producing whiting, bream and salmon while the Hat Head end of the beach has better bream and a few good whiting. Rockhoppers have struggled to get a feed with the better fish coming from the ledges down south.
Very few ventured outside during the last week with poor conditions for most of the week. Fish Rock is loaded with rat kingfish, the bigger kings are out wider off the rock. Charter boats are heading north for fair snapper, pearl perch and morwong.
Thanks to everybody who emailed Mark and myself with their thoughts on this possible shut down of Fish Rock, please keep them coming in and we will forward them on to the minister.
