Weekly Report 7/12/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 07, 2007 12:04 pm

The conditions last week slowed down a few outside fishos, with our bar at its ugly best. The better reports are coming from out wide around the 100m mark, if you can get out there. Some 2kg-plus pearl perch and the odd snapper and mahi mahi have been caught in the slowly warming water while one of our locals spotted a couple of striped marlin. In close off Grassy, there’s a slime which has come in over the last week which you would be better off avoiding. Fish Rock is full of small rat kings with the odd snapper if you can get close enough.
Bream have come on the bite in the river with James Hassett catching five totalling 2.88kg. Surface lures are working well on the bream around the oysters at Clybucca. Flathead and whiting are fishing well on the flats with a hot spot around Summer Island. Small cobia are again coming in off the breakwall on live bait.
Smoky Beach is at its best with plenty of whiting coming in and reports of nice bream and the odd dart. There’s a little red weed in the surf but there’s enough fish not to worry about it. Gap Beach is fishing well for whiting and bream on live worms. There are whiting and bream on Front Beach but most are throwbacks with better fish towards the breakwall on Back Beach.
