Weekly Report 29/2/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 29, 2008 12:22 pm

Catch of the week came from Paul from Brisbane in his kayak 200m from the jail using Squidgy jelly baby on 15kg line, hooked a 78kg black marlin and beached the fish after a three-hour struggle. This was one of a few marlin caught last week out the front and with the odd wahoo and plenty of yellowfin its worth putting up with the bumpy conditions. Spotties finally made an appearance off Grassy taking live baits. Snapper have been coming in off the reefs up north. Fish Rock has kingfish around it while Green Island is producing good bream in close. The water is slowly clearing in close so it should fire up over the next few weeks. The FAD has broken its mooring and should be replaced in a few weeks.
Fishos have struggled over the last week to get a feed out of the river. Bream have been finicky with the best results being in close off the breakwalls. Plastics are working well getting the lazy flathead excited and on the bite. Tailor have been about at the end of the wall chomping on pilchards and strip baits. Whiting are around in good numbers again and if you are using poppers we have them back in stock after incredible demand.
Fair whiting have been around Trial Bay and Main Beach while Smoky Beach down to Hat Head has had good bream and whiting coming in with the odd Tailor. Rockhoppers are struggling for a few Bream and Tailor.
