2/12/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 02, 2005 9:07 am

We have had another week of rotten weather, conditions on most days too uncomfortable to fish outside, keeping fisho’s in the river.
The only report I have from outside is around Fish Rock. Along with the rat kingfish there were monsters lurking with reports of 25kg while a 6kg snapper out a little wider from the rock was landed.
A consolation with the crappy weather is that the river is fishing well at the moment. A nice 19kg jewfish was caught around The Cut with a few smaller ones off the breakwall. There are still plenty of whiting around with some crackers being caught at night. Flathead are biting on plastics especially, but just about anything you want to throw at them will get a reaction.
Good reports from the surf with whiting being caught on most Beaches. Gap Beach has been really firing with big whiting coming in. Smoky is also fishing well for whiting and bream.
From December 1 we have a new marine park in NSW. From the end of Stockton Beach to Forster, including Port Stephens and Myall Lakes and 3 nautical miles out from the high tide mark! The frustrating thing here is the hidden facts – where will the sanctuary (no-go area) and habitat zones be located in these 97,200 hectares? We must demand when it happens here, the intended location of these zones within the park be made public before the 3-month period of public consultation before final zoning.
Watch the bars and check your safety gear.
