Weekly Report 13/6/08

We just can’t get a break in the weather, conditions outside were fair but the river and creeks are very dirty so the incoming tide is the best to fish.
Snapper were on the bite over the last week with good catches off the reefs around Grassy and further north while Fish Rock also fished well for snapper up to 5kg. Now is the time to try some great new Gulp bait colours that are working like snapper magnets and getting great results. Matti Takamaa and Trevor Hill fished the Jail Peak for cobia of 14kg and a 40kg monster on live bait. Morwong are about in the close reefs in good numbers. We have had more whispers of leatherjackets down south.
The river is dirty on the run-out tide which will make it tough for the early blackfish but on the up side there are jewfish along the walls towards the mouth with the Killalure hardbody working well on these fish. Bream are in good numbers off the rock walls with the incoming tide the best. Blackfish are biting in the Back Creek but the guys tell me they’re small fish at the moment. One of our visitors caught a good bag of bream around the pylons of the Jerseyville bridge. Good flathead are about in the shallow creeks taking live bait.
Smoky Beach has bream and the odd tailor coming in while Gap Beach fished well for tailor off the north end at first light. Some classic drummer have been caught off the rocks.
